Isn't It Time You Took A Look At Your Own Consumer Credit History?Compared to a few years back it is easier to obtain your own consumer credit history report. A few years ago, the governing bodies of America passed a couple of laws that supposedly made it much easier for the common person to check their consumer credit history. In a world where identity theft and stolen credit card information are more and more common crimes, giving people the ability to check their consumer credit history was a way that people could fight back against these terrible and tragic crimes. However, for most people, checking their credit history became an arduous task that could take upwards of hours to complete – making it difficult for most of the population to get what was entitled to them. Now, when talking about your consumer credit history, it is important to remember that you are entitled by law to a printout of your history from each of the top three credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. This is the extent of what you are supposed to get for free. You can get one consumer credit history report from each bureau each year for free – and that is that. No more, no less. Unfortunately, the law does not allow you to get your credit score – a number that is far more telling of your credit rating than any consumer credit printout could ever be. The best way to get your consumer credit history report is to contact one of the three credit bureaus directly. If you feel that you have been the victim of identity theft, you can always put a fraud alert on your credit report, but that should be avoided unless there is a very real threat to your identity. All in all, if you are looking to get your free yearly consumer credit history report, you should consider avoiding many of the other websites and services out there that promise you free credit reports. Of course, they will give you one but who knows how safe your information will be in their hands.
