Act Now And Take Advantage Of Your Free Credit History Check

Are you aware that since the year 2004, the government has stated that every citizen of the United States is entitled to one free credit history check from each of the three main credit-reporting agencies per year? Here are some tips to help you obtain yours, and also a warning on how to prevent getting sucked into offers that promise you one, but come with strings attached.

The three main credit-reporting agencies - Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union - all have a presence on the Internet. Ordering your free credit history check from any of the three will simply involve going to their web site and following the instructions posted to request your credit check. Alternatively, you may contact each of them via a toll free number or even request your free credit history check by mail. You will find that all three of the agencies respond very quickly to requests, and you will have your free credit history check within four to six weeks at the latest.

You will also find that in some cases, your local credit bureau will be happy to assist you in ordering your free credit history check from each of the major credit reporting agencies. This will often involved taking some time to visit the local credit bureau and sit down with them while they prepare the request on your behalf. You may need to make an appointment with the credit bureau, but don't worry about clearing the whole afternoon; the process should not take more than a half-hour at best.

You will find all sorts of offers on the Internet that promises you a free credit history check. Quite a few of these free offers are in fact using the free credit history check as an incentive to sign up with one program or another that will provide you unlimited access to your credit report, including email notifications when new information is posted to your credit history. Generally, there is either a monthly or an annual fee for this service. While these offers are perfectly legitimate, only you can decide if that free credit history check is worth entering into a new business relationship and creating another monthly bill. Keep in mind that if your goal is to check your credit standing on an annual basis, you do not need any service to perform that function for you.

Really, it is a sensible move to take full advantage of the free credit history check options that are available. You have nothing to lose and more to gain by doing this.
